Comment spammers have reached a new low (at least to this blog). I awakened this morning to a large number of spam comments targeted specifically toward any politcally conservative posts or posts supportive of the war in Iraq. Thanks to MT Blacklist, they are gone and future attempts will be thwarted, as well.
Posted by Rae at September 30, 2004 10:42 AM | TrackBackI remember reading somewhere that a good way to thwart most of the spam is to increase the posting steps from 1 to 2. Make comment preview mandatory. For a human being writing a nice piece of comment this is something very minor; but for a massive spammer trying to abuse your blog that would be an effective deterrent.

*hopeful raising of eyebrows*
Posted by: Jeremy at September 30, 2004 03:48 PMHmmm, Jeremy, it isn't just one IP address, it is several, but they have specifically hit the types of posts I mentioned. Could be coincidence, but I really think it isn't.
Posted by: Rae at September 30, 2004 04:28 PMWay to kabosh it. Blog monsters are evil.
