You know, it's your blog and you can put anything on it you like. Really. Go ahead.
But you can't deny how good it felt to get your first link, comment, e-mail about a post.
Furthermore, it had to be extremely exciting when one of the big bloggers out there gave you a mention. Then you find out that there are truly monolythic bloggers out there who have only the time for other monolythic bloggers and you get ignored when you comment and then one day, you realize that they really think it "quaint" that you have linked them. If they have even noticed.
Don't mind me. Really. What was I thinking, really, I mean if they had to list everyone.....
*then you feel like a coveting-obsessive-link-fool who should only be writing for "the joy of it" and even stupider for thinking your own writing would be considered high enough caliber for one of the monolyths anyway.
Sigh. Please excuse me while I get back to blogging for the joy (aka therapy) of it all.
Posted by Rae at July 14, 2004 11:57 PM | TrackBackHey, you know what? You're higher in the ecosystem than I am.
That's gotta be worth something.
Posted by: zombyboy at July 15, 2004 12:46 AMAnother sigh. You are right. Whining is so unattractive....
Posted by: Rae at July 15, 2004 01:15 AMWow, I thought I was the only one!
Please, whine whenever you want ;)
Posted by: Patti at July 15, 2004 02:16 AMAs long as you don't fulfill Proverbs 19.13b, is OK :D
*ducks for cover*
Well, in case it is worth something, you're on my blogroll :)
Posted by: Eduardo at July 15, 2004 07:34 AMHey Patti-I finally changed your the link to your new digs :)
Eduardo, I just linked you, too.
Posted by: Rae at July 15, 2004 10:44 AMyou know that what your saying is completely true but it almost is that way for everything you do in your life people will cirticize what you do how you do it even if they know full well that its something you do for you and know one eles. Dont let um get to ya, let them live in there box of how things should be.
Posted by: angela at July 16, 2004 11:26 AM"Quaint"? (00)
*snicker* A lot of big bloggers [and a few little ones] remind me of four year olds sometimes. Oh wait - in blogging terms, a lot of them ARE four year olds. Whoda thunk it? ;]
Y'know? I'm sarcastic, and I snark, joke, poke good natured fun at, and generally appreciate the absurdities of what someone *says*, not based on how much traffic they get or how long they've been at it. To me, it's what you write that matters.
Well, except for this comment. And for my Wonkette cracks. *sigh* Consistency is the hobgoblin of small mimes. Quit looking at me like that. ;)
Posted by: Ironbear at July 17, 2004 03:20 AMY'know - when we first started out, our goal was to get Instalanched as quickly as possible. But we found over the past nine months or so that it is far more satisfying to be known to some quality blogs (like yours, of course ;) ) who are closer to our own level - more like making some genuine friends that we talk to on a regular basis than getting an autograph from some glitzy superstar who'll forget you tomorrow.
Anyway, that's OUR way of dealing with it!
Posted by: Robert the Llama Butcher at July 18, 2004 08:26 PMI highly recommend my approach:
1) Find a blogger you really like, then annoy them enough to let you post on their site, too.
2) Ignore your site's traffic volume. That's your partner's worry (see how great this works already ?).
3) Post infrequently, and at erratic intervals, to avoid building up any kind of readership base. I must say, in all modesty, that I excel at this.
4) The real reason for most blogs is so the blogger can leave their URL in other blog's comments. An example of that rule at work would be this comment right here.
So glad I could be of assistance, Rae, and I expect to see copious links from you henceforth, in grateful appreciation of these pearls of wisdom. Or at least a nod and a wink over at Jeff's place. Which is more than I get from that bloghound Ironbear. :)
Well, Joe, as I have my own blog, I don't necessarily need another, but if I could write somewhere else, I would beg Zombyboy to have a go at it over there. Just because I like the feel of the place: polite, civil, witty, political and I think I could add a bit of stream of consciousness to the recipe to complete it.
Other than that, hey, I haven't heard from you in quite awhile (your e-mail was so nice, but I was still a bit new to it all and wasn't sure about answering e-mails from strange men ;) but I visited Cold Fury and never found any posts by a "Joe" so, you know, I was just being safe.
O.K. so, next time I'm at Jeff's (you surely mean Jeff of Protein Wisdom [that ought to get Jeff over here]) place, I'll be sure to sneak in a mention of your astute problem solving skills, which I know will just thrill the Jeff Man. And Ironbear, he's just a downright nice bloghound.
O.K. going over to link you, and it's because I want to link you; you're "bonified" now(in my best Holly hunter impression).
